Hunger Games mani... and my first nail art!

Yep, I got bitten by the Hunger Games bug too...  A couple months ago a friend told me about the books.  When she mentioned the word "post-apocalyptical" I immediately thought "oh no, another stupid sci-fi book," but because she's a good friend, I decided to take her advice and read the trilogy.  Oh my, I am glad I did!!  I loved them all!!

So needless to say I'm sooo excited to see the movie!!!  I'm going tomorrow night at 7pm!!  And like other bloggers who are crazy about the books, I decided to celebrate the movie premiere with the corresponding mani!  I actually borrowed this design from the talented Kayla Shevonne.  Or at least I tried to borrow it because the end result is nowhere close to hers!!  Blah.. I suck at drawing=(  Always have.  Actually in elementary school (I grew up in Poland) we had to take art classes and we were graded on the quality of our drawings/paintings, not on our efforts.  I always SUCKED at painting but I didn't want to fail the class, so everyday I would stall in class and say I would bring the finished picture the following day.  And after school I would ask my talented dad (why didn't I inherit THAT gene???) to draw it for me LOL.  So I ended up with an A in the class!!  yeah, I know, pretty shitty, but it's also pretty shitty to grade kids based on their talent that they're totally lacking!!  So on the very very slim off-chance that my old art teacher is reading this...  sorry, I cheated!! =)))

Anyway, for the base of this mani I used Finger Paints Black Expressionism.  I freehanded the stripes with China Glaze Awaken (the stripes are supposed to represent the districts).  Then I tried to draw a mockingjay on my ring fingers.  Oh I drew it alright, but I looked like a picture from my elementary school (and NOT the one painted by my dad haha)!!  It was AWFUL!!!  Literally like a 2nd grader slapped some paint around.  And because I'm well into my 30's (man, that sounds old!!  compared to an 8-yr old of course haha), I couldn't possibly pull it off..  So instead of the mockingjay look-alike monstrosity I'm sporting a gorgeous fiery orange, China Glaze Riveting.  It's from the Hunger Games collection anyway so it's fitting!  Its original name was supposed to be "Fire in Flight" and the color is inspired by the flaming mockingjay, according to the first intended collection.

I kinda like the overall look.  It's definitely different from what I'm used to wearing on regular basis!!  Oh, and forgive my Frankenstein index finger... it's still scary =))

Damn, I'm talking a lot today.  On to the pictures!!

it's no mockingjay, but it is one of my favorite pins!  And it does sorta look like the mockingjay, right?

So what do you guys think??  Have you seen the movie yet?  What did you think??  I can't wait to go tomorrow!!!
Thanks for stopping by!!

  5. I love your manicure! :D You did such a wonderful job, and the colours are perfect, too. Hehe, you're right - that pin does look like a mockingjay!

I saw the movie on Friday night, and thought it was pretty entertaining. It was fast-paced (even faster than the book), and a lot of the characters were how I pictured them in my head. My major criticism was that they didn't spend enough time unpacking the relationship between Rue and Katniss. That was the part in the book that I loved and that was the most emotional. But in the the movie, they just glazed over it.

Now I must read the 2nd and 3rd books! :)

    1. Oooh thank you so much for your kind words!!!

I LOVED the movie!! You're right, it would have been nice if they explored the relationship between Rue and Katniss more, but I guess the movie was long as it is already... What I liked about it was the "mood" the director set at different scenes (like the reaping for example) with the coloring of the screen (dark, grey and gloomy). I thought the acting was outstanding!! Also, I liked that they changed the scene in District 11 right after Rue died (the uprising). It gives those who haven't read the books more of an idea how effed up the whole system was.

You will love the remaining books!!! I'm almost jealous, I would love to read them again without knowing how they will end... because they're so good!!! =)
