China Glaze "Below Deck" and comparisons

Don't know about you guys, but I usually chose nail polish based on the mood I'm in.  Two days ago I felt kinda in a funk (again, I know) so I decided to go for a color that would reflect it:  dirty and dark(ish).  I chose China Glaze Below Deck (never wore it before).  Well, to my surprise, I totally loved it!!!  For some reason I thought it was going to be just your blah grey like murky mud water mixed with sewer (exaggeration for sure, but that's what kind of mood I was in!!).  Well.. I liked it so much that I wore it for two days!  And now it's one of my favs!

Below Deck could be best described as a dusty muave... or a light lilac/purple with a good amount of dirt mixed in.  It is lovely!!!  A two coater with self-leveling formula.  I stamped it with a design from my new Cheeky stamp plate and you ready for this... I messed it up!  wow, what a surprise, right... LOL  I think you're used to it by now, aren't ya!!

Oh, and I finally got it through my coconut that putting some cuticle oil around my nails will make the dry skin look a lot better...  only took me a few comments from you guys and 4 months to apprehend it =)))

Anyway, on to the swatches:

Below Deck came out in Spring 2011 in China Glaze Anchors Away collection.  It's still widely available for sale at TransDesign or 8ty8 Beauty among other retailers.

I also compared it to other polishes in my collection that I thought looked somewhat similar.  I came up with two:  OPI Parlez-Vous OPI? and Orly Not Your Mama's Muave.

Here's the first comparison:

Compared to OPI Parlez-Vous OPI? Below Deck is a touch darker a dustier.  It is also a lot warmer.

Next I compared it to Orly's Not Your Mama's Muave.  Orly is a lot lighter, a lot more burgundy and warm.  And I'm glad I tried it out because I absolutely hate it on myself, and hence I'm throwing it into a swap section!!

What do you guys think of Below Deck?  Have you ever tried a nail polish that you thought you weren't going to be crazy about but ended up loving it?

Thanks so much for reading!!

  1. I think it's a very nice dusty purple shade. I might even buy it for myself.

  2. Below Deck is one of my if-in-doubt pick this shades... (I have dupes of a number of brands and I'm-a-hold on to all of them ;) lol It is one of my top five picks as well... there is something so chameleon-ish about it!
    It looks superb on you!
