First of all, don't hate me for featuring this... I know this polish is really hard to get.. I myself always say "wuaaaah!!" out loud when I see awesome swatches of "Floam" or some other impossible to get polish! I could only dream of getting them! But I had to show this. It's in my collection after all, and having had this for good 6 months now, this is the first time I'm wearing it... I know, what a blasphemy!!

So here it is: China Glaze DV8. I'm going to say something here and immediately duck behind a glass... I'm not that impressed!! (hiding now) I mean, it is beautiful and all, especially since it's teal but the holographic effect (linear) is not as strong as I was expecting. Also the formula was pretty crappy! First I applied it over Seche Ridge filling basecoat and it was one hot mess! Then I put Nfu Aqua Base over Seche (on the other hand) and application was a little better but still not ideal. It all leveled out with second coat, and I had to use a thick one too. I mean don't get me wrong, I still really really like this color (how could I not?? It's blue AND holo!) but with all the other holos out there I guess I was expecting unicorns shitting gold... that's what I get for buying into all the hype about this collection and spending gazillion amount of money to get this bottle!!
Maybe I just need to see it in the sun (sun was setting at time of pictures). I promised myself on the mountain (crapping outside in -30 degrees and 40 mph winds) that I would never again curse at the hot sun. So seeing how this beautiful yellow HOT ball of gases has been mercilessly shining at us with 100 degrees everyday for the last month now, chances are I might get better pictures later on today and actually like this polish like I'm supposed to!
In the meanwhile, you check it out and let me know if I'm crazy for saying the above:

So what do you think? Worth all the hoopla? Or would you rather pick up something similar to this? Unfortunately I don't have anything similar to this... all my blue holos are either a lot lighter or darker, so this is one of the kind. But I'm sure eventually someone will make a dupe and then.... you will find this in a swap bin =)
Have a wonderful Friday ladies!! And don't forget to check other beautiful rainbows at these blogs:

This is so beautiful and sooo one of my lemmings :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Helena!!! I hope you get it soon!
DeleteI love this a lot! Especially in the last photo. But I know what you mean. I often prefer to avoid more expensive polishes because I end up being disappointed and then think I could have spent that money on other, less expensive ones.I guess I'm not a true polish collector. I'm not that crazy about Floam either.
ReplyDeleteLOL i bet you're dodging bricks being thrown at you by Floam lovers!! I only know Floam from the blogosphere swatches and who knows, maybe I wouldn't be impressed either? I still like DV8, only not for gazillion dollars!
DeleteThis is really pretty!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! :))
DeleteIt is a pretty teal, but totally NOT impressive for a holo. How old is this color? Maybe it was more impressive back in the day. Even so, I'd probs pick it up if I came across it. ;)
ReplyDeleteI agree, for a holo it is too hyped up!! This collection was released in 2009. It doesn't seem likely but maybe my polish lost some of the holo properties over the years? I stuck my hand in full sunlight and it still didn't impress me.. beautiful base color though!
DeleteThis is beautiful! I've never met a holo I didn't love! :)
ReplyDeletewell.. I guess I could say the same thing.. I love all holos but I don't LOVE them all equally! This one is not in capital letters =)
DeleteI got DV8 in my collection, and I totaly agree with you about it : it's a pretty color, but not impressive at all as a holo.
ReplyDeleteYou make me thinking I haven't wore it for a long time... must dig it out!
