Winter Holiday Challenge: New Year's Eve

Hi loves!

Happy Friday to you all!!  I'm getting ready to go to work.  On my birthday!!  what a bunch of crap.  Yep, yours truly is a year older and none the wiser today =)

I've been seeing the 'best of' posts everywhere on the blogosphere, and I gotta say, I absolutely love them!!!  I want to do one too, but I already committed to that survey I'm doing (btw, have you filled it out yet??? Here's the link!!).  So you will see mine fashionably late, at the beginning of next year!

Today is the last installment of The Crumpet's Winter Holiday Challenge, and it is New Year's Eve nails.  I decided to use the new polish to my collection, one of the OPI Liquid Sands polishes, the OPI "Stay the Night".  I've been on the fence about these..  they look quite interesting in other bloggers' swatches but I just couldn't get over the 'rough' feeling.  So finally I picked up a set of minis (which could be yours too!!!  a G....Y is coming very soon hint hint) to form my own opinion.  Read after the jump what this crackhead has to say about these!!

Stay the Night is... definitely different!  First coat goes on very sheer but the second covers the nail completely.  It's got a bunch of matte black particles with red/pink shiny glitter.  Someone out there compared it to a glowing lava (if you've ever been to Hawaii's Big Island and took a night hike to the glowing lava of the volcano, you know what I'm talking about!!), and I completely agree with this comparison!
The finish was my biggest hesitation before I got these polishes.  I really really don't like matte, and I really really don't like rough surfaces.  That being said, the sparkliness of the glitter completely counterbalances the mattiness, and the 'roughness' is really not that rough!  It feels more like a 'rougher' velvet, if that makes sense.  Maybe just like OPI calls it, it feels like a very smooth beach sand!  I'm used to fast-dry topcoats so the dry time on this seemed a little longer, but it is definitely not as long as on other polishes out there without a topcoat.

My middle and ring fingers have one coat of Finger Paints "Black Expressionism".  The fireworks stamp came from SH-13 and combo of China Glaze "QT", GR8" and "DV8", and the glasses on my ring finger came from GA-9 and Color Club "Harp On It".

One more closeup of the new liquid sand...  the glitter is a lot more sparkly in real life!!

And one more of the whole thing =)

Stay the Night is part of the OPI Mariah Carey collection and has started popping up for sale at various retailers.  I got my set at Ulta.

What do you guys think of the liquid sand polishes?  Have you tried them yet?  If not, will you be trying them?  Thanks so much for reading!!!

Don't forget to check out the other entries in the Winter Holiday Challenge!!

    1. They really are sparkly.. I couldn't believe it myself, I usually hate gritty polishes. I really hope you get to try them and see if you like the texture!

  4. Very pretty. I'm not sure how I feel about the liquid sand polishes. I'm sure I'll try one at some point and decide. I'm afraid I would start picking at it or something:) This looks beautiful though!

    1. Being a picker myself (old habits die hard!!) I actually restrained myself from doing it. They feel more velvety rather than gritty. I really hope you try them!

  5. I don't think I like those sands. But that's not much of a surprise being OPI...
And I guess I would anyway top-coat it to death to get rid of that gritty look :-/
Your full mani is SUPER AWESOME though! I love your combos so much!
Btw - you do know you have to do another New Year's mani, right??? ;-)

Oh hey - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! <3

  6. I usually like matte polishes, but I'm not that crazy about these. How funny is that? I've seen this one with top coat on though, and I love it that way. And I do love your mani!

    1. Thanks Mihaela!! I actually do not like matte, that's why I was so hesitant about these. The glitter (insanely sparkly!!) somehow makes them look really awesome though! I hope you get to try them on your own!!!
