New 31DC: Day 15 - Watercolor

Hey ladies!!

Hallelujah, I went running today!!!  Not my planned 50 min and not as fast as I should have but better than nothing!!  And I actually found another good training program for Everest, so if you're bored out of your mind you can check it out here =) Otherwise, I can just tell you that it involves a lot of training with a backpack.  It's pretty much along the lines I'm doing now, but I'm all for mixing things up.  I've been following the same training program as I did for Denali and it gets a little boring to do the same regimen all the time.  So I'm excited to plan a new training schedule.  I'm sure I won't be even half as excited to actually follow it! =))

Ok, in case you're still with me, here's a little bit about today's mani.  The challenge called for watercolor.  Initially I thought this was a marble technique, but apparently it is totally different.  I actually like how this turned out!!  I followed this tutorial and just changed the base color and the polishes I added on top of it.  Find out how I did this under the jump!

For my base color I used China Glaze "Rodeo Fanatic", a dark deep blue microshimmer which took 2 coats for full opacity.  Warning:  this is a stainer so double up on base coat!

After it dried completely I added a few small dots per nail of China Glaze "Sweet Hook".  Then I took a brush and dipped it in acetone and applied a generous amount of acetone over the dots.  I repeated the whole process with additional dots of China Glaze "Lemon Fizz".  Now, if you watched the tutorial, it says there that you should apply just small dots of acetone because too much will end up in a mess.  I found this to be incorrect, not sure if it's because of the polish I used?  In any case, I found myself applying a shitload of acetone over my nails, huge drops and dabbing around with my brush to achieve the following effect:

I know it's blurry but I really like how my nails look in this picture!!

The whole thing reminds me of Monet's "Water Lillies" painting.  Yes, I just shamelessly compared myself to one of the greatest Impressionism painters!!  LOL  You better order your autograph from me now because you just never know who will want to appraise these nails hahaha =))

Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed my watercolor mani!!  Btw, I feel so much better since I started going to bed early!  No more funk, no more moping around!  If only I could now lay away all the cake...  people at work are so mean, they just keep bringing it and leaving it out!!! =))

  1. That's a technique I have to try ^^ OMG training... I should totally do some sport but I don't run even if I lose the train so...

    1. Ehh.. It's not like I like training!! Couple more months and I can pig out on cake again!!! :))

  2. It's amazing that you're training for Everest! Best of luck with that! :D
This is beautiful! It reminds me of Monet too!

  3. You're right, it does look like an impressionist painting! This technique is so tricky. I tried to do it once but ended up creating bald spots in the base color so I had to give up. Yours turned out great!

  4. strange, whenever I look at your watercolor, all i see are tulips. White, frosty tulips.
You already know that I don't like this technique much, and I figured I wouldn't like most entries of that one, but yours is so different. I don't even know why. Maybe because you left so different layers of the white polish and didn't really drown it all... But I really love this mani.
    White tulips in the night.

  5. Happy Monday!Dang that's a good manicure!
Okay-personally, I get more done on a Monday than I do all week!
